Beware of the Signs of The Time, will you be ready for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ?
There was a time when all you ever heard from Christian evangelists were messages of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. At that time, which was not too long ago, Christians walked in the consciousness of the time in which they lived in. “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand” is a message from the scripture that you may have heard about. But how often have you heard of it in recent times? The Bible says in the book of Mark 13:32 KJV – “But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.”
The uncertainty about the actual day the Lord will come has probably made a lot of Christians forget or even begin to doubt that we live in the last days. People have now resolved to live their lives however they deem fit, becoming so engrossed in the things of the world that they forget that the day of judgement is at hand. Unfortunately, this is exactly what the Bible predicted in Luke 17:26-27 NIV “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days, of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.”
It was so in the days of Noah that people doubted God’s words. They made a mockery of the warnings they received from Noah and continued in their sinful lives and they were destroyed before they realized their mistakes. The Bible tells us that this is the same way the last day will come upon us, with many being caught unaware. This was clearly written in the book of Revelations 3:3 which says “Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.”
So, it is paramount that we do not forget the times we are in. To be alert and prepared for the day of the Lord, so that we may not be caught unaware like the people in the days of Noah. For us Christians, understanding the times that we are in, is a useful tool that we all need to arm ourselves with. We do not speculate, norj do we allow events to leave us clueless. The Bible mentioned Daniel as a man who understood the times he was in and with the immense knowledge he gained from reading the scriptures, he was able to understand that the
children of Israel where only meant to be in captivity for 70 years.
As modern Christians, we should be like Daniel. Fervently studying the scriptures to understand the times that we are in, so as to enable us prepared for what is to come. The scriptures clearly gave us the description of some of the events that would happen when the kingdom of God is at hand and when we study our scriptures. We can all agree that these events are already happening. The book of 2 Timothy 3 gives us a list of some of the signs that would signify that we are indeed in the last days. We are told here that during the last days, men will become proud, blasphemous, boasters, disobedient to parents and unholy.
You will agree with me that these things are rampant in the days that we live in. There is an increasing number of atheists who mock Christianity as a religion, proclaiming that there is no God. There are others who have allowed pride to blind their eyes, forgetting that whatever they have, they do because of God’s grace. The book of Matthews gives an even more convincing prediction, Matthew 24:7 KJV, says “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diverse places.” You will agree with me that there has been an increase in the regularity of natural disasters in recent times.
People may argue that there has always been political unrest and natural disasters, but what cannot be argued is that the frequency at which they happen has increased. Reading Matthew 24, Jesus who himself had given these predictions, declared that such happenings where not the sign that the end has come upon us, rather he called it “the beginning of sorrows”. The meaning of the word “sorrow” in its original language is “birth pangs” which is, of course, the pains women suffer during childbirth. This pain become more intense as a woman nears birth, and this is exactly what Jesus was trying to explain. That is just like birth pangs, the evil that comes before the end of days will increase in intensity and frequency as the end of day draws near.
Even as we know that these events have been happening for a long period of time, we should understand that the increase in frequency means we are very near the end. Know that the last day can be any moment from now. These things are happening before our eyes today, and with each passing day, we hear even more. It cannot be a coincidence that the evil happening around the world has not decreased even after the many efforts the various countries have made towards curving it. The Bible also made us understand that there will be incurable diseases in the last days. As we can see that there are so many diseases today that scientists are still unable to cure or shall I say, they refuse to inform us because the longer they put off finding a cure the more research or pharmaceutical fund are made available.
It seems the more the world leaders try to solve problems we are currently faced with, the greater the problem becomes. It is important that as Christians, we are not deterred by these events. But rather, we use all of it as a template to work on our lives and improve our relationship with God. We know that only Him can save us from what is to come. It is also our jobs to try to warn others, to save as many souls so that our Father will be proud of us on the last day and we can be amongst the saints on judgement day.
Encourage Yourself: Mark 13:32 KJV – “But of that day and [that] hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.” “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand” Be ready at all times!
“In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.
I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
