What The Bible Teaches About Faith

“Without faith, it is impossible to please God.” This is what the Bible teaches about this marvelous spiritual force called faith. Faith is believing. It’s believing in God and in the authority of His written Word, the Sacred Scriptures. But this believing is not a mental thing. Indeed, faith goes beyond our minds. Faith is not just a state of mind. It actually comes from the human spirit, as a result of hearing what God has to say about a particular subject. For instance, faith for salvation comes by hearing what God’s Word has to say about becoming a child of God. (Romans 10:9-17) Faith for healing comes through hearing what the Word of God teaches about healing. (Acts 14: 7-10) And faith for any area of life can be gained by finding out what the Bible teaches about that particular issue and acting on what is written.

Did I say act on God’s Word? Indeed I did, for without action, faith is dead. True believing is acting on God’s Word. If there is no action, one does not believe. Faith then is an act. And everyone in the Bible, who had faith acted upon God’s Word and thereby saw the results of their faith manifested.

The Bible declares that, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) This reveals to us that faith is believing beyond what we can see at the moment. Faith is, trusting God and what He has to say about something, regardless of what is seen or felt in this natural physical world. Again I emphasize that faith is a spiritual force. It is not mental. It is much more than a state of mind. It causes a state of mind. Because I believe what God has said, I control my thinking and make my thoughts line up with the Bible. If God says that if I confess with my mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in my heart that He has risen from the dead I shall be saved, and I believe that, then I will accept Christ as Lord and after that moment, acting in faith, I will declare that I am saved, regardless of how I feel.

My feelings have nothing to do with my salvation. God ‘s Word says that I am saved, so I am. My feelings will just have to catch up later. And guess what? If I act like I am saved, after giving my life to Jesus Christ, the results will be that my feelings will start to realize what happened and then I may get some feelings about it. Nevertheless, my feelings are not my proof of my salvation. The Bible is my proof. The Bible says that I am saved, so I am.

Faith is holding on to what God says and refusing to let go. It is standing firm upon His Word. It is understanding that God’s Word is Ultimate Truth to which everything will have to bow and come in line. If I have faith in God and His Word, then His Word will always be the determining factor in my decision makings. What is faith? It is believing in God and daring to act upon His Word. Without action there is no real faith.

ENCOURAGE YOURSELF: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
